Trio of cards by Paula Cannon with the Wild & Sweet stamp set by Stampin' Up!

The Wild & Sweet Stamp Set is Sweet

The Wild & Sweet stamp set is indeed a sweet set! It had me at the koala bear, and pandas are popular, but … a raccoon? They seem to have a reputation as pesky critters, although I’ve never personally had any run-ins with them. So, unless you have a friend named Rocky, what are you going to do with a raccoon card? And then I colored one for a sample card, and he has such a sweet face!

I’ve made several cards with this new stamp set, and I’ve used Stampin’ Blends, Watercolor Pencils, and watercolor with inks. They all work great, so if you like to color, you may need the Wild & Sweet stamp set.

Birthday card with Whisky Business from Stampin' Up!

An Old Fashioned Card Using Whiskey Business

As you can see from the card photo, my blog title is a play on words as the card sentiment is “sending you an old-fashioned birthday card.” But I think the design of this card, using the Whiskey Business stamp set, is rather old-fashioned.

There was a time when everyone used black mats for all their images. I didn’t do that a lot because it often struck me as being too heavy for a lot of images. However, I think it works perfectly for this card. It helps with the linear design and works with the dark background and over all tone.

Actually, this card just evokes an old-fashioned sensibility to me. I love historical fiction (books and movies) and I can imagine the men withdrawing from dinner to have cigars and whiskey. Then again, maybe its just the wood paneled background!

Card by Paula Cannon for Vintage and Fresh featuring milk can image from Country Home stamp set, colored with Blends

Using Stampin’ Blends with Country Home

I’m so glad the Country Home stamp set will carryover to the new Annual Catalog.

This is a card I made last fall using Stampin’ Blends to color. It’s the milk can image paired with the cotton plants that I used for this card. It has the same tall focal image, but this time I used a horizontal band to balance the card design.

First, lets talk about coloring with Stampin’ Blends. These are dual tipped alcohol markers (one is a thin tip and the other a brush tip).

Country Home: vintage style that’s on trend

The Country Home stamp set is one of my favorites from the Holiday catalog. It’s not exactly vintage and its not exactly rustic, but it is definitely on trend. It seems that every store I go into these days has milk cans and cotton plants!

I’ve made lots of cards with this set and this is one of my favorites.

Card featuring Country Home stamp set by Stampin' Up and designed by Paula Cannon, using watercolor technique.

With a tall image like this you can change up a basic layout with a simple square mat that doesn’t frame the focal image. For this card I used the coordinating Country Lane Designer Series Paper. I also used the DSP to inspire the colors in my foliage. For the milk can, I stayed on trend and kept it traditional with the smoky slate gray.

Detail of card by Paula Cannon for www.vintageandfresh.com featuring the new 2017 In Colors from Stampin' Up! and Crafting Forever stamp set.

How do you like the new 2017 In Colors?

How do you like the new 2017 In Colors? I think they’re wonderful! Here are the colors if you haven’t seen them.

Ribbons and Bitty Bows in the new 2017 In Colors from Stampin' Up! Photo by Paula Cannon for www.vintageandfresh.com

These 1/2″ Finely Woven Ribbons are so nice to work with, and aren’t the In Color Bitty Bows cute? The colors are (from the top): Berry Burst, Powder Pink, Lemon Lime Twist, Fresh Fig and Tranquil Tide. They work really well together, and while I haven’t played too much, they seem to work well with other colors, too.

So far, Lemon Lime Twist is my favorite. (I love it with Bermuda Bay.) But Berry Burst is a quick second. I’m not a pink girl, but I think it has a more purple cast to it. And it’s great with Lemon Lime Twist.

Here’s a card I made with the new stamp set, Crafting Forever, and all five of the new 2017 In Colors. The designer series paper is called Fresh Florals. If it looks familiar, it’s four designs from last year’s Floral Boutique paper (the navy and white DSP). It gives you a nice variety of floral and patterns in all the new colors.
