A Spooky Bats Specimen Display

Real life bats can be spooky, but paper bats can be fun. Especially when they are so easy to make with the Spooky Sweets stamp set and Spooky Bats punch. Bats are a Halloween staple, so a bat punch is a good item for your craft stash.

My spooky bats specimen display is a little different than bats flying through the sky.

First I looked through my designer series papers for papers with small patterns. I decided on the Share What You Love  DSP. Not only does it have small patterns, it has purples and greens, and some shiny pearl highlights. I punched several from scraps and decided to add a few stamped bats as well.

Next, I played around with the layout and realized there needed to be another element besides the bats. The obvious choice is the new Black Glittered Organdy Ribbon. Can I just say that this is great ribbon and you should buy some just to have? Its one of those ribbons that, at some point, will be the perfect ribbon for a project. Unless you use it all now on Halloween!

For the background I selected my favorite new embossing folder, the Tin Tile dynamic textured  impressions embossing folder. Basic Black seemed appropriate since I had already selected Rich Razzleberry for the card and I wanted it to have a hint of Halloween. (To see a more subtle background using embossing folders, take a look at this card.)

TIP:   When you use the dynamic impressions embossing folders, you’ll get a deeper impression when you very lightly spritz your card stock with water before running it through the Big Shot.

To finish, I used my bone folder to gently curl the wings up, then I attached my bats to their display with glue dots. And there you have it, my spooky bats specimen display. Except I don’t think these bats are spooky at all.

What if you don’t like bats? You could do something similar with butterfly or small flower punches. Its an easy layout and a great way to use designer series paper scraps.
