The 2019 In Colors: Purple Posy
August 9, 2019|Posted in: Creativity
Purple Posy is the fifth of the five 2019-2021 In Colors. It’s a very light, soft color. If you are a fan of purples, this is the perfect addition to your color palette because it works so well with darker purples.
Once again I’ve gone to the Woven Threads designer series paper, not only for the color but for the design inspiration. Purple Posy is mixed in to several of the patterns on this paper package, but on this sheet it takes center stage. The square pattern is in Pretty Peacock, which at first glance may seem an odd pair, but it works.
I layered the DSP on to a Pretty Peacock mat, then on to a Whisper White mat, then adhered it to the Purple Posy card. The layers tie together all of the colors, and keep this pale shade of purple from fading away.
The design cue comes from the square shapes of the background. I cut a square of Whisper White card stock using the Stitched Shapes dies, then cut a Pretty Peacock mat. I positioned it on its side, so to speak, like the white square/diamond part of the pattern.
This simple but structured design called for a single image, making it perfect for a butterfly. I selected one the butterflies from the Butterfly Gala set and stamped it with Pretty Peacock, then colored the top wings with a Purple Posy Blends marker. Finally, one last element – a Purple Posy faceted dot on the butterfly.
I’ll end with this design tip: squares don’t always need to be square!
