Why Hello There, New Catalog

Why, hello there! The new catalog went live yesterday and I was among the thousands placing an order. One of the perks of being a demonstrator is the opportunity to pre-order select products a month before a catalog goes live. And I did. But there are so many things I like in the new catalog, I had to order again! Of course, I need new samples for my upcoming Open House, too. Of course.
One of the sets I pre-ordered is called Pieces & Patterns. (You can find it on page 41.) It’s kind of a goofy little set and not the style I normally get. But it caught my eye, and every time I looked through the catalog I had to stop and ponder what I would do with it. Every. Time. So I bought it.
Several of us got together for a swap with our new sets and I made this card.
The camera image in the stamp set and the camera design on the matching Pick a Pattern designer series paper made me think of the faux Polaroid frames that are trendy right now. And the idea of the dinosaur, with his short little arms, taking a selfie made me chuckle. Yes, it doesn’t happen often, but sometimes a card will have a backstory. Is it just me?
The sketch came to me easily, with the frame and the circle greeting. I used the colors from the designer series paper: Emerald Envy, Flirty Flamingo and Crushed Curry. I used one of the squares from the Layering Squares Framelits to cut out the mat/frame from a rectangular piece of card stock. You can cut the size to fit your image and just have fun with it. It’s only the idea of a Polaroid that you are creating.
My first draft needed something. That’s when I spotted the “Why” from the greeting Why, Thank You. Why not? I used my black marker to ink the one word and stamp it in the corner. It was a close fit, so I turned over the mat, laid it on the white piece of card stock and used it as a guide for placing the stamp. (I turned it over so as not to get an ink smear if I stamped wrong.)
Then I squeezed in the dinosaur. (I had already cut all the frames for my swap, so this was going to work! I did not want to cut them again. So I had to squeeze him in.) I used the Whisper White card stock, which is not the best for water coloring, but I just did a quick wash of color. Again, not going for realism on this one.
He’s really kind of cute, asking the eternal question. Why?
Adhere the designer series paper to the card front, add some twine to the frame, punch the circles and attach with stampin’ dimensionals and the card is complete. Why, hello there! Take a look at the Pieces & Patterns stamp set, along with all the other great new items in the digital catalog in the sidebar. Then visit my online to store to get your very own set!
