Card using Stampin' Up's Parisian Flourish 3D embossing folder and Very Versailles stamp set to create a vintage style.

Create a Vintage Style Card With Embossing Folders

Even though I make cards in all kinds of styles (one of the things I love about rubber stamping) vintage style cards are my favorites. Today I want to show you a way to create a vintage style background using embossing folders.

First, let me show you my finished card.

Card using Stampin' Up's Parisian Flourish 3D embossing folder and Very Versailles stamp set to create a vintage style.

For this background, I used the beautiful Parisian Flourish 3D embossing folder with Very Vanilla card stock. This technique works best with bolder embossing and with the 3D folders.

Case the Catalog with the Stampin' Up! Rectangular Postage Stamp Punch

Casing the Catalog with the Postage Stamp Punch

I really like the card featuring the Posted for You bundle on page 81 of the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog. I thought it would be a fun card for a class, too, so I could show how to change sizes with the Rectangular Postage Stamp Punch. But I usually make a few changes when I case a card, and this time I changed everything but the layout! (btw, CASE stands for Copy And Share Everything)

Card using Stampin' Up! Rooted in Nature with Rectangular Postage Stamp Punch

For starters, I used the Rooted in Nature stamp set. I love the Postage Stamp Punch and you can use it with so much more than its companion stamp set. I also wanted to do an autumn card for my September class.

Since I haven’t used Terracotta Tile much this fall, I started with that color, then picked the images and colors. You’ll notice I used the triple-leaf image twice. I used the Bumblebee marker to color and stamp two leaves for one postage stamp, then I stamped the full image for another postage stamp.

The other colors are Bermuda Bay, Cinnamon Cider and Pretty Peacock. All the images are stamped on Very Vanilla, and the card base is the Very Vanilla Thick cardstock.

Card using carnations from the Inspiring Iris stamp set and cased from the Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog.

Find Inspiration: Casing the Catalog

Where do you find inspiration for your stamping and crafting? A great resource for ideas and color combinations is any Stampin’ Up! catalog. When I’m feeling creatively challenged, I will often skim through a catalog. I look for design ideas, project ideas, or color combinations.

Today’s card is one I cased from the 2019-2020 Annual Catalog.

I love the new stamp set Inspiring Iris. Besides the iris images, there is a fun carnation and a sweet rose. I wanted to try the carnations but I kept drawing a blank. (more…)

Two vintage teapot cards by Paula Cannon using Tea Together stamp set and Tea Time dies.

Two Vintage Teapot Cards

It’s easy to get the look of a vintage teapot using the right designer series paper and the Tea Together stamp set and Tea Time dies. This teapot is such a fun image and you can get so many looks when you use designer series paper. Of course, you can stamp and color the teapot, but we’ll save that for another post.

The paper you select will have a big impact on the look of the teapot. Bright colors will be bold, whereas Subtles colors will be more demur. Fine prints can be dainty. You get the idea. The best way to get a preview of how your teapot will look is to lay the teapot die over the paper. Instant image.

For these cards, I used the new Woven Threads designer series paper to make vintage teapots for a swap. This new paper features the 2019-2021 In Colors and has a lovely vintage appearance, along with some solid textured designs. Since I was making 22 cards, I decided to make two variations of the same card.

Embroidery hoop card with Needle & Thread stamp set, featuring Needlepoint Nook mini buttons.

Needlepoint Nook for an Embroidery Sampler

I love the Needlepoint Nook suite in the Occasions catalog! Probably because I used to do a lot of embroidery, but also because it has a slightly vintage and slightly fresh look. The Needle & Thread stamp set is also one of Stampin’ Up’s DistINKtive stamps. The images look like real, stitched, embroidery.

One idea I knew I wanted to try was to make a little embroidery hoop sampler. The easy part was using the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper and the Layering Circle Framelits to make the hoop. Deciding on the images and pattern for the sampler took a few tries. That’s what scrap paper is for!
