Happy Birthday to You in Blue

January 10, 2020|Posted in: Creativity, Specials

The new Happy Birthday to You stamp set is so fun to color! Today I have a beautiful card, done up in blue, to share with you.

At first, I thought all those flowers on the cake were a little much and not my style. But I was wrong. The Happy Birthday to You cake stamp is one to use for years to come. You can make a simple card or something fancy, and it’s perfect for all the different coloring techniques.

My inspiration for this card is the sample in the Sale-A-Bration catalog. I like the blue flowers on the blue lace background of the sample on page 8. But I don’t have the Stitched Lace die to create that background.

However, I do have the Delicate Lace dies. These dies, in the annual catalog, are three lace edge dies. So I cut this die along the edge of a quarter piece of whisper white card stock. Then I stamped the cake in Memento Black ink and trimmed the card stock down to size.

For this card, I choose to color with Stampin’ Blends. I used Balmy Blue and Night of Navy for the flowers, with Granny Apple Green leaves. My cake is colored in Petal Pink and the cake stand is Smoky Slate.

Besides the catalog card inspiration, I like the idea of a cake with blue flowers. Fortunately I had some blue designer series paper to use for a background (not that card stock, alone, wouldn’t work). Can you guess where this sweet blue striped paper is from?

Come Sail Away DSP. That’s right. Don’t let the name fool you. Look at the papers you  have in the context of the cards you want to make. This particular design has always reminded me of ticking. So for me, it gives this card a sweet, slightly country, slightly vintage flavor. What do you think?

To finish off the card, I added a bit of Balmy Blue ink around three sides of the white card stock, using a sponge dauber. This card called for some bit of ribbon, so I tied white bakers twine along the stitched edge provided by the die. Then I added a sprinkling of sequins in petal pink – to add some pizzazz and to fill the space.

You can get the Happy Birthday to You stamp set, free, when you place a $50 order (before tax and shipping) during Sale-a-bration. This is the big, annual, Stampin’ Up! sale, which runs from January 3 to March 31, 2o20. Check out the Sale-a-bration catalog on the right panel, or visit my online store. If you don’t have a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator, I would be happy to help you!
