Create a Vintage Style Card With Embossing Folders

Even though I make cards in all kinds of styles (one of the things I love about rubber stamping) vintage style cards are my favorites. Today I want to show you a way to create a vintage style background using embossing folders.

First, let me show you my finished card.

Card using Stampin' Up's Parisian Flourish 3D embossing folder and Very Versailles stamp set to create a vintage style.

For this background, I used the beautiful Parisian Flourish 3D embossing folder with Very Vanilla card stock. This technique works best with bolder embossing and with the 3D folders.

I embossed the cardstock first. Then I stamped over the embossing, using Memento ink and the script image from the Very Versailles stamp set.

The key is to stamp lightly. It creates a worn and textured look because only the raised portion that is embossed with be inked. Whereas, if you stamp first then emboss, you have the textured look, but not the faded, vintage style look the broken stamping creates.

To add to the vintage look, I lightly sponged the edges with Crumb Cake ink. The sentiment is also from the Very Versailles set. It is cut out with the Stitched So Sweetly dies and sponged as well.

The leaves are from one of my favorites, the Gathered Together stamp set. I stamped them with Stazon ink on watercolor paper. Using the water painters, I used Merry Merlot, Cajun Craze and Bumblebee inks to paint the leaves, for a soft, autumn look. They are cut out with the Gathered Leaves dies. (see this post for another watercolored sample)

For finishing touches, I added some Champagne rhinestone jewels, and a linen thread bow. The card base is Merry Merlot.
