A New Color Combo for You to Try

March 17, 2017|Posted in: Creativity, Specials

Are you ready to try a new color combo? My guess is that you have a few go-to colors when you start a new stamping project. I know I do. But I also like to look for new color combinations and give them a try. One source I use, along with half of the population, is Pinterest. That’s where I saw this color combo of Calypso Coral, So Saffron and Mint Macaron. Since I like all three colors, it was game on!

The Cake Crazy stamp set seemed like a good place to start since it’s a fun set for multiple colors. Here’s the finished card:

This set may look crazy, but it’s a photopolymer set so it’s easy to line up the images for two-step stamping. As a general rule of thumb, I like to start with the darker color first, then I can easily see that color to help me line up the second image  with the lighter color. Here I stamped the Calypso Coral image first, then added the So Saffron image (top) and the Mint Macaron image (bottom).

You can build some crazy cakes with this set, but I went for a simple three-layer cake. The background paper is from the Cupcakes and Carousels designer series paper pack. Those rays of So Saffron make a great backdrop for a fun birthday cake. For an embellishment I added the beautiful Mint Macaron linen ribbon, attached with one of the cute mini paper clips from the Occasions catalog.

What do you think? I love this color combo! They do play so well together. And the addition of Early Espresso provides some definition without overwhelming the lighter colors. I just wish I’d found this color combo sooner. Mint Macaron will retire in May and I will miss it. It is in the 2015-2017 In Color group, all of which will retire.
