The 2019 In Colors: Pretty Peacock

Today’s card features Pretty Peacock, a nice warm blue-green color. We’ve had colors in this range before and I think they play well with others, which makes it a good versatile color to have. I’ve used a paper from the Woven Threads designer series papers that’s all Pretty Peacock for the background. The pattern gives it a nice texture that’s not too busy.
This is a masculine birthday card, featuring one of the sail boats from the Sailing Home stamp set. I stamped it in Memento black ink and colored it with three Stampin’ Markers: Pretty Peacock, Crushed Curry and Gray Granite. I also used the Pretty Peacock marker to color one bird from the three seagulls stamp.
I wanted to keep the card fairly simple, so I used the Layering Circles dies for the image and for the Gray Granite mat. I echoed this on the banner by stamping Happy Birthday in Pretty Peacock and layering on a mat. I actually used a scrap from a Woven Threads paper for some texture, but you can’t really see enough of it to tell that. The greeting is from Itty Bitty Birthdays.
To give it a little more color I added another layer between the DSP background and the card front. I picked Cajun Craze. Blue and orange are complementary colors, and since these are both dark muted colors they look great together.
At that point I knew I had to use one of my Designer Elements embellishments. I love these! The one I used is Antique Copper. (They also come in Antique Gold and Antique Silver.) It’s holding the banner in place.
While I love the darker tones of these colors, I didn’t want the card to look too dark, so I selected the White Flax Ribbon to run across the card front and tie the elements together. Then I remembered I have the Copper Trim, so added that for more color and more interest. I think it adds a nice final touch to the card.
