Tutti-frutti Topiary Tree

The stamp set Vertical Greetings usually catches someone’s eye because the vertical greetings designs are an interesting alternative to regular greetings. That’s one reason I bought it! But I also think the topiary tree designs are fun.
Here is a fun and bright example. The Tutti-futti Sequins (from the 2018 Occasions Catalog) were out on my stamp desk and they inspired the color selection. I used these three markers for the tree: lemon lime twist, pumpkin pie and melon mambo. The vase is bermuda bay.
This is a basic technique for coloring a solid image stamp with multiple colors. Just hold the brush tip of the marker at an angle (use the side not the tip) and color each section. It’s a good idea to huff or blow on the stamp just before applying the image to paper. The moisture in your breath helps the ink make a better impression. Its especially helpful if you are coloring a large area as the ink can start to dry. For example, I colored each section of topiary, then the vase and stamped one impression.
The card is a classic center-panel design. The base is bermuda bay, the background is lemon lime twist cut to 4″ x 5-1/4″ and the whisper white card stock is 2-1/4″ x 5-1/4″. While I like a good Clean & Simple design, this just seemed a little too plain. I tried embossing the background with the Garden Trellis embossing folder and it added that missing pop.
For a simple embellishment I went back to those tutti-frutti sequins for some sparkle, and a single strip of Bermuda bay washi tape from the Basics Pack 3. Also, you can see I added an edge of color around the white piece by running the brush-tip of a marker along the edge: melon mambo on two sides and pumpkin pie on the other two. (I couldn’t decide!)
There you have it – a tutti-frutti topiary tree for a bright card that could be used for any occasion! Vertical Greetings is carrying-over to the new Annual Catalog. Take a look!
