Dragonfly Dreams Land on a Clear Block

March 3, 2017|Posted in: Creativity

My dragonfly has landed on a clear block. So to speak. I’ve been playing with the Dragonfly Dreams Bundle from the Occasions Catalog. For this card, the little guy ended up landing on a clear block stamped background. I did a Pinterest search for dragonfly to get some color ideas. One image that I saved was a print of three dragonflies, laid out one below the other, similar to a specimen frame. Not only did I like the coloring, I had my design inspiration as well. Yes!

The mat, or background, for the dragonfly is made by stamping a clear block. I used our clear block E and inked it with crumb cake ink. Just stamp the block onto card stock. It’s that easy. (be sure to press firmly and evenly) For the outline I tapped the edges on an early espresso ink pad, then stamped over my block image. Instant frame. I trimmed the card stock close and roughed up the edges using my paper snips.

For the dragonfly, I stamped the full image in crumb cake ink. I added color with sponge daubers, then cut it out with the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits, using the outline thinlit. I tried my specimen on a pool party card front and a pear pizzazz card front. Both worked but I like the blue better. In keeping with the vintage style of this card, I used Timeless Texture on the card front. A little pool party ink on the pool party paper and it was just enough to add the vintage feel and provide some texture and interest.

Now, time for some type of embellishment. As I tried a few things it occurred to me that dragonflies have those side “bug eyes” so I tried two small enamel shapes (in pool party) and it fit for this card. Next, I swiped a bit of SNAIL adhesive on the back and added some metallic thread. Before adhering my dragonfly with stampin’ dimensionals, I added a few little splatter images from Timeless Texture to my mat.
