Champagne Cheers to the New Year!

December 31, 2016|Posted in: Creativity

It seems like a lot of folks can’t wait to say goodbye to 2016. For me its been like most years: some ups, some downs. Like every year, December 31st comes along and we look forward and say Happy New Year!

So, champagne cheers to 2017!

This is a simple card with a classic layout, but I wanted to have a little fun with the glass of champagne. What do you think? The images are from Mixed Drinks. The glass is stamped with Momento ink and the champagne is stamped in So Saffron. However, once I finished the card I decided it needed a little sparkle so I painted over the glasses with my gold and clear Wink of Stella pens. I used the Stitched Shapes Framelits for a decorative edge.

Tip: the general rule of thumb is to stamp first then punch/die cut so you can get the image where you want it in your shape. I suggest the opposite for this project. Sometimes when you are only using part of an image, especially at an angle, it’s easier to just cut your shapes and then stamp.

The background uses a paper from the Serene Scenery Designer Series Paper Stack. This piece is the perfect match for this card. The circles hint at bubbles and the color fades from dark to light, just as the glass goes from full to empty. Not that you would need this specific background to make this card, but I like the match. And the rest of the papers in this stack are wonderful. It’s well worth the $10 price!

No matter how your year has been, let’s toast to an even better 2017! If you’d like another idea using the champagne glass, see today’s post on my Facebook page.

  • Adhere designer series paper to front of card.
  • Cut out three pieces of Whisper White card stock (approximately 2 x 2″) using the Stitched Shapes Framelit (#145372). I used the second smallest square.
