Card using martini glass stamp from Sip Sip Hooray set with mercury glass acetate.

Don’t Miss the Mercury Glass Designer Acetate

December 20, 2019|Posted in: Creativity

Don’t miss this hidden gem in the Holiday Catalog!  It’s hidden away in the bottom corner of page 33. You get four 12″ x 12″ acetate sheets with a faux mercury glass finish. Two have that mottled look you are familiar with and two have more of a cracked glass finish.

It caught my eye because I have several pieces of faux mercury glass (mostly vases) in my house. I ordered it early but I’ve just recently started playing with it.

This card features it as a simple background and its the easiest way to use it.

The acetate comes with plastic film on one side. You’ll want to remove that. In this case, I started cutting and forgot it was there. Not a problem, though. It cut fine and pulled the film away from the edge so it peeled right off. However, it you are going to die cut it, you will have better results if you remove the film first.

We made this card at my December Monthly Stamp Class and the ladies had two choices: the wine glass or the martini glass from the Sip Sip Hooray stamp set.

I picked red and green for the color scheme, so it can be a Christmas card. It would also work as a holiday thank you or an anytime birthday card.

The card base is Pear Pizzazz, with a front piece in the same color, cut to 4-1/8″ by 5-3/8″, that was embossed with the Subtle embossing folder. Sometimes a simple layout calls for a simple background and sometimes it needs some pizzazz so its not too plain. The Subtles embossing folder is a little bit of both.

The red mat is Poppy Parade, with a smaller Pear Pizzazz mat, and then the showcase layer of the Mercury Glass Designer Acetate. It’s attached with mini glue dots.

All of the stamps and dies are from the Sip Sip Hooray Bundle. We used Flirty Flamingo for the drinks and everyone  could choose their decorations. Again, mini glue dots were used to add the glasses to the acetate.
